Jesus was to all intents and purposes a Pharisee (in the religious sense). That's why he had the opposition from the Sadducees to his views on the afterlife, which were in line with Pharisaic teaching.
Eventually the Pharisees also rejected him, but the authorities who were threatened most were the Sadducees - advisedly so, since Pharisaic teaching has come to take over pretty well all of Judaism, and the Sadducees are completely vanished.
(Yes, probably someone will come up to a reference to some small group of Sadducees existing somewhere in the world, but I'll risk it.)
