Hello people, that's the question, since yesterday (at least) it's impossible to enter there, always appear this stupid link http://sedoparking.com/search/registrar.php?domain=chinahistoryforum.com&registrar=sedopark; and you know that is by far the most interesting forum about East Asia. I think if not a problem of my computer because i tried in others and always happen.

It's gone
We had a thread about it over at AntroForum,  I think it may be gone for good, but I hope someone will make something again, as it was one of the few relatively serious forums out there. It was hacked, it seems. A very strange story. At one point it was merged with another unrelated forum, and after a couple of days it closed down completely.

Salaam/Greetings!

It's been like that for at least 4/5 days. I remember there suddenly being a new forum with a new webmaster who said he was acting on behalf of General Zao(? - the founder) but then it went completely offline, which is a pity as i enjoyed lurking on that forum.

It was hacked, and the "new webmaster" was a fraud. That's why it was shut down. The administrators reported to the police, but I doubt they could do anything about it. Apparently one of the administrators received a phone call demanding 300 dollars, and if they refuse China History Forum will be hacked. Apparently the administrators refused. It's a good decision. Once you give in they might charge another 300 the next week. And the next after that, etc...

btw, what's the AntroForum? Hopefully the members of CHF might have went there instead.

^I thought it was weird that the 'new webmaster' would tell his entire lifestory and that of his father to a total stranger who didn't even ask for it (his lifestory was something about digging treasures of the Roman Empire somewhere in the Balkans) but now it's makes sense since he made it all up. That's really F' up for them to do something like this, as if hacking alone wasn't enough, they actually try to extort money!. There was tons of interesting stuff there accumulated over the past couple years, i hope if it does come back that all of it is restored somehow.

It's good to read that f...ing shameful forum is offline Thumbs Up.

Those SE Asia borns mis-represented themselves as " Chinese ".Despicably harbored foreign sinophobes and tolerated them to extreme measures. For 5 years, that forum bent over backwards to the rampage of S Korean ultra-nationalists and Viet troublemakers.Total dis-service to Chinese history.

^Sure there were ultra-nationalists(of any nationality) attempting to hi-jack interesting topics or spread disinformation but they were (from what i saw) immediately put in their place. The Archeaology section & the entertainment section were 'Ace'

It's actually two other forums, but they're not suitable for the people who used CHF, they have completely different subjects (anthropology) - but when all this happened, an old web address suddenly gave access to the CHF forum, which was odd, as it was an anthropology forum that was closed down. Not only that but all the old anthropology related posts from the past reappeared on the CHF, to much confusion.
Just before it stopped working, it was only available via that old address, while it wasn't available via the CHF adress any more. Strange.

This is quite sad indeed. I didn't visit too often, but when I did, CHF proved to be a very interesting forum. Let's hope this forum-hacking is just a one-off.

This is just tragic. It was one of my favourite history forums to lurk in. One day I had some free time and thought I would start posting, but it was gone. :(

In case you guys think CHF is gone...you're all wrong.

CHF is not gone!

CHF has returned and is now back online after being restored.

The new temporary web address is at http://www.chinahistoryforum.org

China History Forum had suffered a "hacking crisis" since March 7th 2009. The domain name chinahistoryforum.com was also stolen. The hacker also compromised (i.e. hacked and locked out) the administrators' e-mail. However, after weeks of tracking down the hacker, the hacker had decided to return the domain name to me. I can only complete the transfer of domain name back to my registrar after May 21st.

In the meanwhile, the new web address is at chinahistoryforum.org .

There are still some technical issues to resolve, as we spotted some errors and bugs.

Why would the hacker decide to do that?
