Hello to you all

Searching for the Me262 topic, I found an interesting fact, British pilots fighting on the eastern front rather than the west. One, I forgot his name, even won the order of Lenin. There were also American pilots too who fought with the Russians after the US entered the war. I know Russia had allies during its was especially in the end when Bulgaria and the Yugoslavs joined the fight but I didn't know there were western allies except the RN units in the Arctic.

My question here is this, Were there any western units fighting with the Russians in WWII other than those pilots and the RN? What was the nature of their mission and was it official?

There was a whole Polish army fighting on USSR side since autumn 1943 but I don't know if we can call them western units. It counted about 370.000 when it reached Berlin.

There was a large French fighter squadron that fought the entire war on the Eastern Front.  I don't think the squadron was official, but was composed of left wing French volunteers who made their way to Russia after France collapsed.

Had the Soviet Union actively sought international leftist volunteers, there could have been far more units raised. Shortly before the war, however, Stalin had imprisoned hundreds of foreign leftists in the Soviet Union and once the war started, the Soviets did not make any mass appeals for foreign fighters.

Homage to Catalonia was published in 1938. It can't have helped recruit leftists to the Soviet cause.

The Normandie-Niemen (Groupe de Chasse 3) squadron was an official unit of the Free French Air Force. Indeed the squadron name was still in use in 2005.

It served on the Eastern Front from 1943, four of its French pilots became 'Heroes of the Soviet Union'. The squadron accounted for 273 enemy aircraft from 1943-45.

RAF Squadrons 81 and 134 were stationed in Murmansk on convoy protection duties, then conducted pilot training for Red Air Force pilots using the Hawker Hurricane. The two squadrons shot-down 15 enemy planes for one loss.

I forgot about the Poles. But I want to know if there were American/British/French with the Russians.

Surely there should have been westen allies officers who were with the Russian at least as observers or consultants. The initial distruction of Russian communication and control centers as well the the decipation of Russian commanders may have made them use some American/British help in training junior officers like they trained pilots.
