This question refers to how much the Europeans (and the world) SEEM to dislike Americans. Now donm't get the public mixed up with the government. The question is how do you feel about the PUBLIC. This question comes from the fact that I have seen numerous accounts of the Europeans and the European press stating how stupid, fat, and annoying Americans are. I really want to now if this is the true feeling from Europeans (and the rest of the world I suppose)!

In my travels in Europe I found that most Europeans like Americans but they do not always like our government's foreign policies.
I was always treated with respect and kindness and I have been to Europe five times, totaling ten months. Even in Greece I was treated with the utmost respect and never had problems. I do remember a huge protest in Syntagma Square over the Afghan war in November of 2001. They were playing music that sounded like it was from the Russian Revolution in Greek. There was a man in the front of the procession with an American flag and it was covered with Swastikas. I was offended but when I asked I was told that it was not aimed at your average American. I am bold and not afraid to confront something I do not like but when I realized it was not aimed at me as an American I was happy. My country is not perfect but I still love it!!! I also remember going to the Island of Aegina and missing the ferry but finally after getting back to Athens, by the Metro, I was shocked to see the aftermath of a riot. I have missed a riot and someone had thrown a bottle filled with gasoline into the Metro train but no one was hurt thank God. I was very happy that I had missed the ferry. Advice: never take the speed ferry when the sea is rough!! I almost lost it five times and I saw an entire Greek soccer team disappear into the water closet. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The general reason why Europeans and the world in general has a dislike for America is for the fact that many many Americans believe they are superiour, and have a profound disrespect for other cultures and languages. Now we could live with that, a cocky guy can be manageable but not only are americans cocky, but have this intersting theory that with everyone carrying guns around the world is a safer place But it doesn't end there, they believe they stand for freedom, while they're nation's foreign policy encourages the absolute opposite worldwide, and not only encourages mind you but applies the complete opposite. THe American dream...: Live free.....COUGH COUGH (by putting everyone else in slavery) ... But to top things off, most American's are completly ignorant of their nation's true foreign policy and get brainwashed by every fart the president makes. Yes indeed, god bless America.....psst: cuz it might crumble at any moment! Now on a lighter tone i know some great americans who are really cool ppl it's just like mentionned earlier, american foreign policy tends to make the prejudices. I have nothing againt most americans just get a bit frustrated when they are compeltly ignorant to what happens beyond their borders or about anything their country does...once again, I know they are not ALL like that... |

I was thinking, because America is such a superpower, if we go out then alot of the world goes out to, yet we are dependent on the rest of the world to. Like China, Tiwan (sorry can't spell) and a few other countries where most of our good are imported from. China is a rising superpower in economics in my opinion. With everyboby moving over there for low labor costs, China's economy is increasing.

How come every forum on the internet has the question, what do Europeans think about Americans posted one time or another, but no European ever asks the reverse. Is it because Americans are especially insecure about themselves and feel they need validation by others or that Europeans are too arrogant and snobbish to even consider the rest of the world, or a bit of both? Hehe, no I know that my friend, I think Canada does about 70% of it's trade with america. It might even be more, I am a bit ignorant on the exact figures mind you, lol.....k but stating that America has got itself a quiet unattractive debt and could be on the verge of another depression does not mean I'm denying the fact that this debt hurts us Canadians as much as it does Americans. I will say however that you Americans have a fine policy of ruinning the image of all us westerners with your foreign policy, which is precisly the reason why roughly 95% of Canadians are greatly agaisnt the idea of annexation with America in any way...and speaking of ignorance, many americans I know are very ignorant to what goes on beyond their borders, to why terrorists exist to if Pharoahs still rule egypt....just in general. In fact they tell me they don't learn about outside u.s in school. Once again, I know not all Americans are liek this I'm just explaining why this general attitude exists between Europeans and americans. |

I thought we were talking about land.
About this oblivious of the state of the world. It comes with age and is BS. They are more arrogant than ignoratnt. The US, a country of 300 million is going to have more ignorant people than a country of 30 million but also many smarter ones. |

Well just the fact that most Americans believe their coutnry is the best in theworld means that you have a looooooot of arrogant ones. I love my country but I dont' believe it above any others. And about annexation, they were talking of adopting the american currency, well the americans were suggesting it. There's also that North american Missile defense plan where of course Americans would construct expensive unnecessary military outposts all over Canada...and if there was a war we would be thankful but this is jsut paranod americans putting their hands on Canadian freedom. Anyways, seeing how america is our only terrestrial neighbour suppose we aught to get along with them eh? |

There is already too much American culture in Canada. |
