What is the worst president, leader or ruler that "we" (the human race) ever had?  I am a world history fan and have looked into the matter.  At first, I thought surely our outgoing president must top the list, but I have to admit I was wrong.  There were much worse ones.  Perhaps someone can come up with a scale showing where he would stand.  How far down on the scale would he be from Hitler?

I'm not sure if you mean something like 'wicked' or 'crooked' or something like 'incompetent' or something like 'unsuccessful'.

Yes, it would be difficult to work out a scale!  I just read the other day that Prime Minister Margaret Thacher of Britain had a popular approval rate as low as 18% before she went to war to re-take the Falkland Islands.  Perhaps we are too hard on our "Great Leader" who saved us from "terrorists."  I think back and remember how popular Bush was after 9/11---after he had recovered from his panic and flown back to Washington in order to take us to war.

I'm already against the next war.

The worst? I am not sure if Ghengis Khan or Adolf Hitler was the worst, just counting the number of people that died because of theirs actions. There are many more that could have a well deserved second place: Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Napoleon and many others, all of whom murdered at least one million people each.

With respect to incompetents, I believe George Bush could start the list...

I don't think 'she went to war to re-take the Falkland Islands' is exactly right. Argentina went to war to take the Falkland Islands: Britain defended them.

I'm still thinking about your question. We've dicussed the comparative merits of US Presidents, Australian Prime Ministers, and British leaders, but I don't recall a world cup. Maybe we should start with regional competitions and end up with a world final.

With regard to Bush, it's difficult to think of anyone in the US who was so incompetent at everything. Everybody else seems to have done something right. Internationally though he has to be challenged by Edward II of England, no?

I find that this thread is rather pointless. Asking who the worst ruler in the whole history of this world was is an impossible task, and a rather childish one at that.

How about something more worthwhile, such as asking who the worst American president was?
