Topic: Pakistan = Punjabistan?Posted: 23-May-2009 at 04:42 |

Since the partition the ruling Punjabies have treated the minorities in pakistan in a really terrible manner. Pakistan should be named Punjabistan because minorties like Pashtun, Baloch, mohajirs and sindhis have never had a share of the power in pakistan.if you go in to the pashtun and baloch areas you find almost no progress has been made in these areas since the last 60 years, the simple reason for this is that Punjab takes most of the budget of Pakistan and leaves this area with almost nothing. One of the reasons for terrorism and Talibinization is poverty and Punjabi government are responsible for this because they haven't done any thing for the rest of pakistan.
I really think its time for pakistan to break simply because Pakistan is a failed state, Pashtuns and Baluchi people are crying for their freedoms from these people.

Although I despise and have zero trust for the Pakistani government and their hypocritical ways, I will have to say this topic doesn't have much to do with South Asian history and probably should be closed.

Peace,
I think it is Pakistan's popular culture, which is dominated by Punjabi's and is imposed on the population, that makes the minorities feel, certainly the author, as if "Pakistan=Punjabistan". Minorities, who feel as if the nation is foreign cultured, then start to disregard anything their culture or traditions is alien to, and as a result they start to associate Pak's Pop' culture as a Punjabi representative. However, some of Paksitan's Pop' culture is in fact foreign to Punjabi's themselves. The influence of foreign culture i.e namely India and the West is rooted in Pak to a great extent. If the country was established for the purpose of Islam, then it should solely stand by it, but this is where the country fails its self. Such foreign cultures would not have been allowed to enter and be penetrated in society. Naturally, the Dominant power of the world has the weight to infleunce society due to their "success" people see. Therfore, this is why Pak is always trying to model India and the West, in that process the self integrety of its country is lost to these foreign elements. Instead, if Pak was to remain truthfully attached to God, it would be trying to model not imposters who propose freedom and justice, but the real justice which the country inherently deserves to be loyal to: Islam. The British tried their utmost best ( when they were in Power) to cut out the influence from the neighbouring Muslim countries i.e Afghanistan, Iran, and in great lengths they succeeded. If only Pak looked backed to its western borders, the mountainous valleys Islam journeyed through to finally reach the plains, the place British could impose little influence, and where true relgion is still upheld.
