--Can anyone come up with an odder war than the Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896? It started when the would-be Sultan of Zanzibar--who had been Sultan 2 days--ignored an ultimatum rendered him by the British Empire, thus precipitating a state of war. They didn't like his politics and had told him to stop being Sultan.
--The ultimatum ran out at 9:02 on 27 August when the Royal Navy squadron conveniently parked in the harbor opened fire on the palace and landed a force of Royal Marines to arrest the rash fellow. It ended at 9:40 on 27 August, when the Sultan the British didn't like evacuated himself to the safety of the German Embassy and the Sultan the British liked took the throne. He was crowned the next day.
--Naturally the new Sultan paid for the British support. The UK charged him for the ammunition it had expended.
--Anyway, this is generally considered the shortest war in history.

You forgot to mention the reason for the British gunboat being there in the first place which was assigned to the protection of the England cricket team which were touring Africa.

How about the Footbal War fought between El Salvador and Honduras, which had the last ever cavalry charge in history........... in 1969.

wow 1969?!?!? damn I remember reading about the football war but never knew about the cavalry charge. The only other charge I can think of was on I read in an old book of mine about some Mongolian expeditionary force fight for the Soviets in WWII. I think the year was 1943 when they like charged a German position but they were mowed down before they even got to them, kinda like Agincourt.

How about Baron Ungern von Sternbergs foray into Mongolia? not really a war but it certainly is odd hearing about a Estonian thinking he is the reincarnation of Genghis Khan leading a division of cavalry into Mongolia and overthrowing the khan and placing himself as dictator of Mongolia.Oh did i mention this was all aided by tibetan monks lent by the Dalai Lama.

The "Igbo Women's War" in 1929 in Nigeria seems rather odd to me.

I've always found the Quasi War (1798-1800) weird as well, as in this war, France was opposed to the USA, while in American Revolutionary War, as well as in the War of 1812, they were again opposing the UK, together with the USA.Confused

How about a war triggered by the shooting of a pig...once again involving the British.

Britain and Finland in WW2. So far as I know, it is the only case in modern history of a democracy declaring war on another democracy.
