Nuclear bombs  to North Korea are not so much about protecting themselves from US intervention or anything like that, but as a way to ensure the survival of Kim and the top elite from any internal dissent threatening to topple them. The country is probably the closest real example of Orwell's "1984" novel depicting the bleak authoritarian dystopia. Since Kim Il Sung's "Song-un" militray-first policy, the army has become the main employer of those lucky enough to have enough food to feed themselves. They don't have any real love for Marx or Communist ideology but use it conveniently to justify the rule. Ever since Kim was anointed leader in 1994 there hasn't even been any plenum meetings as other more moderate Communist countries used to practice in the past.

But for all of this ranting it's similar here in the US as well. These hyped up  threats from outside help to maintain the status quo.  Maybe if the US removes the 40,000 or so troops it has at the DMZ then the North Korean criminal regime will probably loosen the screws a bit towards their slaves-citizens.
