It seems that the first inscription of Linear A has been deciphered in Crete. In the museum of St. Nicholas, a minoan artifact from Malia (inscr. #9675) is being excibited. This inscription bears 18 Linear characters that Chadwick had unsuccessfully tryed to decipher. Paul Four had tryed to translate it in Greek as well but failed since he missed some phonetical values, which lead to a absurd translation. The missing link was the Arcadian dialect that was used in this Linear A inscription and renders the text perfectly as "Sixteen year old canister holder, you will  swagger in the sacrifice and the libations" (i'm not sure if i have translated it in english accurately). This is the first Linear A inscription ever read in a known language.

Like P. Masouridis had earlier suspected, Linear A and B had been used to write more than one language. His study lead to the reading of several etruscan inscriptions with mixed linear B and greek alphabet symbols (see image below, 600BC).

I guess also this is the first time, a Linear inscription renders a specific dialect. Linguists had noticed that the during Mycenaean years there's no distinct dialects around Greece.

This dates from 1998!

Defeat allows no explanation
Victory needs none.
It insults the dead when you treat life carelessly.
