Thank you for the warm welcome Knights and it is nice to meet you
![]() I look forward to engaging in debate with you and others on the topic of historiography, particularly postmodernist history then, once someone finally decides to initiate discussion on the topic.

Welcome to All Empires.
![]() I would be glad to discuss historiography and postmodernism with you. The best place for this is probably in the Intellectual Discussions forum. If you would like, please post a new topic there. Here is a link to that subforum:

Hello everyone!
I'm new to the All Empires Forum, but I have a passion for history. To be precise, my interests mostly lie in Roman, Greek, Celtic, Germanic, Middle Eastern, and Steppe history. I will introduce myself more properly when I have the chance later. It's late here, and I'm tired.Â

Thank you Knights! It's a pleasure to belong to the internet's largest historical forum.
I'm a 19 year old American college student, and since an early age I've held an interest in all sorts of history, from ancient, medieval, renaissance, and 19th century, to our own modern times itself. My username "Pistolero" is actually based off of my interest in the American (and Mexican) Old West. I'm, not surprisingly, a western film enthusiast as well, enjoying such titles as Once Upon a Time in the West, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, For a Few Dollars More, The Searchers, Unforgiven, 3:10 to Yuma (actually the best western of our decade, I believe), Django, A Fistful of Dollars, and many others. I enjoy historical fiction films in general as well, such as Gladiator, 300 (I know, I know... but I liked it), Troy, Alexander, Spartacus, and others. I'm of Croatian (50%), Italian (25%, Tuscan and Sicilian), English(12.5%), Irish/Scottish descent (or Scots-Irish? Well, it's 12.%, and maybe some other ethnicity I don't know of yet, such as more English), respectively, and I certainly enjoy reading the history of my (and possible) ancestors. Just recently, someone told me that I sort of looked part Korean or Japanese, I think this can be attributed to the Croatian side of the family though (who may not even be mostly Slavic Croat in origin, Illyrian may be a large genetic influence as well), because in the Dark Ages, the Huns, Avars, and possibly other Turkic/Altaic steppe nomads settled in the region. I even go as far as to consider myself a possible descendant of Attila the Hun, I know there is no way to know for sure, but it's kind of neat claim. I'm also a descendant of ancient Saxon nobility of England, Irish nobility, and perhaps even distantly related to a U.S. President (Great Grandmother's claims, I sort of believe her though). I believe that in the end, most people will be surprised at how many famous individuals they may be descended from or related to. Come to think of it, everyone seems to be related to everyone, if you go that far back in history. At least according to my world view. In addition to history, hobbies include politics (believe me, I'm big on this. I took a political science class and got an A), Christian theology (well, it's what I believe, so this explains my intense interest), swimming, hiking, fine foods, drinking tea, and computer gaming (I own many historical-based games as well, such as the Total War and Age of Empires series). And well, that's a bit about me. I suppose a "bit" is an understatement though. :) -Pistolero

Welcome Pistolero, I think you are off to a good start and we all welcome you here to AE. I can only concur with your favortie westerns. All of them, and you are right in that 3:10 to Yuma is the best western of this decade. Have fun!

Hi!
My name's Kaye. I'm a 17-year-old freshman in college who actually didn't care about history very much until taking a required US History course (which just ended on Wednesday) at the local community college campus. I live around, but not in, Austin, TX, and until I get my footing in here, I'm probably going to lurk. I'll contribute when I can, though, promise. My favorite parts of history... That would be a hard pick. I really enjoy hearing about how the stories play out, and how it's relevant still today. If I had to pick a place and time to call 'favorite', it would probably be either early US history [Pizzaro's war with the Aztecs was just inspiring. Get them drunk, ha!], or the Revolutionary War. Still, I'm also very interested in WWII history and German history in general. My hobbies include studying languages, [right now I'm learning German and Japanese; farther in the former than the latter.] drawing, role-playing, and watching anime. My favorite right now is Axis Powers Hetalia, which isn't really all that historically accurate, [from my understanding, anyway.] but is hilarious. The basis is that all the countries are personified and anthromorphized; America always wants to play the hero, Germany's strict, quiet, and rule-loving, England's cooking sucks, etc. Anyway, it's nice to meet you all. |

Hello All
Brilliant forum this! I have been nosing around for ages before plucking up courage to register, firstly because though my interest in history is huge, but my knowledge definitely isn't! Plus, it's confined almost entirely to British history, Celt to Medieval. I have been astounded and delighted at the incredible depth of knowledge of your members (and I've already learnt so much just by reading the threads).
Secondly, having glanced through your photos, I came to the conclusion I'm slightly (!) older than most of you, which was a mite off-putting. But what the heck. When I say something stupid, which I will ......... often ............. you can pat me on the head and put it down to the Alzheimers setting in.
I live near London, of English, Irish, Dutch, Gypsy, and of course, Welsh ancestry.

You should feel some comfort if you saw my picture - and I'm not the oldest here.
But yes, some or even most of our "kids" here knows more about history than I ever will.
It's a pleasure and priveledge learning from them.
