Well dear Temujin,
The fortress is named Bala Hissar, located in capital Kabul was built in 5th Century AD and is one of the oldest fortresses standing still after facing 3 British, 2 Russian, 1 American invasions along with many small skirmishes.

It's most popular for it's period of 1st Anglo-Afghan war where the Britains established it as their Embassy and base and their ambassador to Afghanistan, William H. Macnaghten was killed inside the British embassy in Bala Hissar by Ghazi Mohammad Akbar Khan.

Here are some more pictures of it.

Dear temujin,
Actually what you are talking about (recent but samller fortress) is the Sherpur Cantonment in Kabul, which is located in the center of Kabul City.

Here are some old (Anglo-Afghan war) pictures of it:

File:Bengal Sapper and Miners Bastion, in Sherpur cantonment, Kabul, Second Afghan War, c. 1879.jpg

A recent Picture of it:

And as far as more Afghan fortresses are concerned, there are many more of them but the ones that I know and are famous are:

The famous Bala Hissar-e-Herat (Fortress of Herat)

After some renovations:

An ancient for on the top of Hindu Kush mountains:

The ruins of Farah Fortress:

The ruins of Qalai Bust (Bust Fortress):

The Fortress of Balkh (Bactria):

The only tower left of what used to be a Fortress of the Ghaznavid Empire in Ghazni:

The Fortress of Bamyan up high on the mountains:

And the lately shot to fame, Qala-i-Jangi (War House) of Mazar-e-Shareef:

For more pictures of fortresses around the world you can check out AE Pictures section, I remeber there was a thread but have forgot it's name, so you will require some search for it.

The state I live in Arizona is also very beautiful but I was driving out in the sticks and realized the recent rains had washed out the road. I wonder how many county workers it will take to fill in this pot hole.

@ Knights
You are most welcome and as we don't have much pictures of Australia, I would surely love to see some of them, oh and if possible please try to had some pictures that are taken by yourself as one could search and find lots of picture on the net but the pleasur of a real time picture that is taken by an amature photographer (in case you are not a real photographer) is much more thant of those taken by masters.

ZİLE(ZELA) CASTLE -Zile/Tokat/Central of Türkiye
Julius Ceaser defeated Pontus in Zile and said his famous apothegm :
VENI VIDI VICI( came, I saw, I conquer)

NEMRUT MOUNTAIN in ADIYAMAN/southeast OF Türkiye
This Massive head mouments are very famous all around the world.

On either side of the east terrace stand relieves of the King's ancestors, paternal (Persian) to the north, maternal (Seleucid) to the south, framing the colossal figures of the gods (heads standing on the ground) facing the main altar. These include, in addition to eagles and lions, the Greco-Persian mixed deities Zeus - Oromasdes, Hercules - Verethragna - Artagnes - Ares, Apollo - Mithras - Helios - Hermes and Kommagene - Tyche, as well as Antiochus I himself.
