    Posted: 16-May-2009 at 16:44
Yesterday 3 exhibitions of the celebrations of the 2000 anniversary of the battle of the teutebourg forrest.

While in Haltern, Detmold and Kalkrise many exhibits are shown and a re-build Roman galley is cruising on different rivers of the west, the Germans will commemorate the first Germanic hero. Arminius, one of Germans most popular folks, next to Adolf Hitler and Fritz Walter, sent home the decadent Varus, devided.

The Emporor ,who recived the package with Varus' head was not amused, but he decided to let the Germanic tribes stay in knee-deep swamp and in such high ignorance.

And if Arminius would have known, what he had wreaked with his victory, he better would have gone back in the dark rainforrest together with his clan.

German megalomania started and lasts till its desastrous end 1936 years later.

I would call it sub-tribal megalomania, if anything, it certainly wasn' German, Germanic in bits and pieces, but not in any ethnic sense.

Germans are not really megalomanic. The Germans feel inferior and are ashamed of themselfs. And that for 2000 years or more.

Somewhere between 1800 and 1850 this changed. And THEN, the Germans started to become megalomanic. In the 19th century. When Germany was at its cultural peak. Poetry, music, phisolophy. In that time, Germany called itself the "Land der Dichter und Denker" (Country of poets and philosophers) and felt cultural and moralic superior to all other countries of the planet.

Its peaks to the 19th century sentence: "If there is any country in the world, that has the moralic authorisation to rule over the world, then this is Germany!"

Thats pretty much tells anything about the 19th centrury self imagination of Germany.

"The British and Frensh run up and down the jungles and shoot niggers, while we create culture!"Hard Working

1936 they proved to be at least if not worse barbaric than the imperialist Brits and Frogs.
And there goes the "Moralic authority" Evil Smile

And since 1945 the germans are back to their "normal" state: to feel inferior and depressed.

So the last 2000 years are 100 years of megalomania and 1900 years of beein an "Emo" :D

Should be believe any idea of "civilised and human" romans versus "savage and cruel barbarians" story? Or is it rather a consequence of the fact that most wriiten sources at disposal are of course from litterate romans - and, should we add - mainly from the more wealthy, powerfull groups (of course)? Iberians resisted roman conquest, gauls did, british and dacian, so the germanic tribes do not seems to be any exception, except they had more succes in doing so. Could one of the reasons be that they were neighbour to the empire for very long, and learned more and more from what they found usefull inside this empire? The germanic mercenaries must have brought some experience "home" - and certainly a lot of weapons later discovered by archaeologists outside the ancient borders.

Of course they brought stuff home.
An eyewittness of the battle versus Varus explained it like this:

"The barbarians thought like Romans and they carried Roman gear!"

It was "allied" tribes whoi rallied against the Romans.
And the leader had roman citicenship. Grew up in Rome as a hostage, was educated as Roman officer and earned the honor title of a "Knight".

Some modern ideas are that he most likely grew up in the family of the emperor himself or at least with a close relative of the emperor.

The Romans thought, they made him a Roman. But somehow his feelings for a people he barely recalled and only knew as a child, grew back when he arrived.... "home" for the burrial ceremony of his father the chieftain.

Edit:
Its also known that wealthy Germans used to buy all stuff from Romans.
They had houses made by Romans, weared clothing buyed from Romans etc.
Its not different to Taliban using Nokia cellphones and wearing Russian guns. ;)

Any wealthy german knew that Germanic weapons are crap.
Whoever had the money and the power got a Roman one.

And many Germanic chieftains had been burried with Roman jewles and clothing but then... with 2 weapons crossed over their chest: A Roman sword and a German war axe. To hold the connection to the home traditions.

Hehe.
Well, to be serious....

I recall what some professor said in a radio interview, what he thinks is "typical German".

He said, if one looks not on spots in the German history but on the whole thing, you get this:

- The Germans are totaly anti-nationalistic, Germans dont think in "Germany", they think in the "world".
- The German dream is a united, cosmopolitican world
- But the German thinks that he is the only one who knows how to establish this and that he is chosen by fate or any higher power. (re-establish Rome, reform the church, free the worker, drive forward the EU....)
- The Germans lean to extrems and fanatism if it comes to establish the path they chosed to be the golden one leading to salvation for the world. This includes torture, destruction and genocide if they think the world needs this for her salvation.
And this is also true for German grown Jews like Karl Marx.

By the way:
Witch hunting was the most cruel and extreme in Germany.
50% of the victims of religious fanatism (not  including religious war) on the European continent had been Germans killed by other Germans for witchcraft and heresy.
Spain reaches only 1/3 of that.

Evil SmileAngel

Well... if this would be truth...
then I think...

thzinking of yourself of the "Messiah" is somewhat megalomanic. Hmmm. Ouch

Must... purge... purge...... PURGE THE WORLD! Angry
